Care Instructions

Flexible die being removed with a wink die lifter

Flexible Dies

  • Never bend a flexible die the wrong way
  • Always clean the cylinder surface and the back of the die thoroughly before mounting onto the magnetic cylinder
  • Flexible dies should only be removed from the cylinder using a Wink die lifter (available on request, subject to availability)
  • Remove all ink and glue residues, thoroughly clean both sides of the flexible die after use and lightly coat both sides of the die with an anticorrosive oil.  Post-press die care is just as important as a good pre-press routine for perfect die cutting results and prolonged die life
  • Store flexible dies in individual Wink bags, sealed tightly
  • Store in suspended files or in the original cardboard packaging in which the dies are supplied

Rotary Cylinders

  • Clean thoroughly before usage
  • Lift into and out of the machine taking care not to damage the surfaces
  • Never put a magnetic cylinder down on the magnetic area
  • Never put the weight of a rotary die on the cutting edges
  • Remove ink and glue residues regularly
  • Don't use excessive pressure on the bearers of worn cylinders

Inspecting rotary cylinders and gears

Machine

  • Check the positioning of the pressure bridge on the bearers of the cylinder/die
  • Ensure that bearings and shafts are running free from backlash
  • Use Pressure Cells to accurately control the pressure between magnetic cylinder/rotary die and anvil
  • Increase cutting pressure very slowly
  • Clean and oil the bearers and pressure rollers (felt strips) regularly
  • Measure the air gap regularly. If the gap is different from one side to the other, or the gap tolerance is too large, check or replace cylinder/die and anvil
  • Check bearers, bearings and pressure rollers regularly
  • Check gears regularly
